Dollar Store Pumpkin Fall Decor Project

Raise your hand if you've ever bought a dollar store craft.  I'll start.  I've bought many, but most of the time, I never start them, let alone finish it.  With the cooler weather here in Texas (which really means low 90's and high 80's), it's encouraged me to do a little more Fall decorating.  I'm willin' it y'all because I seriously look forward to some low 80's and 70's!

If you missed my YouTube live this afternoon, I invite you to watch the replay below so that you can see how you can transform an inexpensive ($1.50) wooden pumpkin from dollar stores and turn them into a beautiful hanging decoration or table top decoration.

Pictures from the YT Live video are below as well.

This first project I did is an example of how you can hang this decoration.  This one is hanging at the bottom of my stairs.  Make sure to keep reading so you can see how to add an optional photo mat to this project!

NOW.  If you want to add additional flair to the project and turn it into a photo piece, this is what it might look like.

Honestly, I think the picture feature adds more value to the project!
If you want to know the steps on how I created the photo attachment, the instructions are at the end of this blog post.

In my video, I talked about sliding in a piece of cardstock in the back of the acrylic photo holder.  I inserted a piece with my personalized stamp on it.  If you are gifting this, this area is the perfect opportunity to add a sentimental note and your stamp/signature.

Ok.  So to help balance the photo mat and the top, I decided to add a couple smaller leaves.  Because the sprays above had plenty of foliage pieces, I was able to snip one of the berry bushes and attach to the center of the leaves.  And remember the scraps I cut off the large lace ribbon?  Well, I grabbed one of the scraps, cut it in half, banner cut one end and placed them behind each leaf.  And if you guessed correctly, I used HOT GLUE!

And to imagine, THIS is what I started with!

HOW TO MAKE THE PHOTO ATTACHMENT

First, decide how big your photo needs to be.  For my example, my photo is 3" x 4 1/4", so I chose the dies I chose, were slightly larger.  Cut 2 of the same die cuts.

In my example, to make the window, I used a stitched rectangle die cut that was the size I needed to make an opening yet still leave enough room to attach the window sheet and small foam circles.

Next, I measured the inside of my die cut piece, then cut a window sheet enough to make sure it would cover the opening and allow me to add glue dots on each corner to secure it.

Next, add small black foam circles or squares on 3 sides.  Add them as close to the edge as you can and make them all go one direction so that the photo you slide in goes in smoother.  Depending on the color of cardstock you use, you can use either white or black.

After you remove the adhesive backings, attach the 2nd die cut as a backing to the photo front.

Attach black foam circles to the back of the photo mat.  Remove adhesive backings and attach to the pumpkin project.

Earlier, when I mentioned to add foam circles on 3 of the sides is because you want to leave a side open so that you can slide your picture inside.  On this project, I attached it so the opening was on the right.
